Das Bistum Trier liegt im Südwesten von Deutschland, in den Bundesländern Rheinland-Pfalz und Saarland, an Mosel, Nahe, Rhein und Saar.Das Bistum Trier in der Kirchenprovinz Köln ist die älteste römisch-katholische Diözese in Deutschland. Bischofssitz ist die Stadt Trier mit der Kathedralkirche, dem Trierer Dom, der 1986 in die Liste des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes aufgenommen wurde.
Anstelle der „Pfarreien der Zukunft“ wurden Pastorale Räume gegründet, an deren Spitze ein Leitungsteam aus drei hauptamtlichen Mitarbeitern unter Vorsitz eines Dekans steht.
Seit dem 1. Januar 2023 ist das Bistum Trier in 34 Pastorale Räume untergliedert. Sie haben die bisherigen 32 Dekanate vollständig abgelöst und bilden neue Einheiten zur Unterstützung des kirchlichen Lebens der Pfarreien und Kirchengemeinden vor Ort. Government
