Thank you for your responses. I got the solution which was rather simple.

sudo apt install wkhtmltopdf

I had initially tried to build it from source and my guess is that i had made a mistake.

For some cases you must install below font in your system to get your reports running.

http://download.odoo.com/fonts/Roboto-Regular.ttf download and install it.
