Hi everybody,

Currently transitioning towards Odoo 16 and I bumped into a problem which I have not been able to resolve. I probably just overlook something what is straight forward. If somebody could push me in the right direction.

I wish to change the default UOM for weight and volume in the Inventory tab (Inventory>Products>Inventory). By default this is kg for weight and m3 for volume. This is not practical for my business, I wish all products to have these values in grams and cm3.

I first thought to simple change the reference values for weight and volume under each category to grams and cm3 (Inventory>Settings>UoM categories). This all went fine, configuration wise, but it did not change the default measurement on the inventory tab of the product.

To give an example, I would like 0.171kg to enter as 171g, and 0.004566m3 as 4566cm3.

Note that none of my products I have entered has currently weight and volume values. So any changes would not yet effect Odoo in my view. Neither do I want to change the Unit of Measurements on the general information tab of products.

I tried to change the decimals to higher than 2 on kg and m3 but Odoo does not like this and gives the following error:

This rounding precision is higher than the Decimal Accuracy (2 digits). This may cause inconsistencies in computations. Please set a precision between 0.01 and 1.

I would appreciate to know it if anybody had the same issues and how you resolved it.

Thanks for the help and assistance.

Hi Frank Bujik,

You should go to Inventory -> Configuration -> UoM Categories, and select for the category weight and volume the unit you want to use by default. For example, in weight you can set grams as the 'Reference Unit of Measure for this category'. For volume, you should create ('Add a line') the Unit of Measure cm3. Here also, you can set the Rounding Precision.
