Were you able to resolve this? I have the same problem. All my fields have valid data. I created the file by exporting the COA, and then importing, just wanting to update the default tax type, because I couldn't do this with the original import because I needed accounts to setup the tax types.

Can you check if all the necessary fields in the COA filled. I think that was the issue I was facing.

I tried the import again, with no changes to what I was importing and it ran OK. I can only suspect it was some setting I had changed that made it work. Or it could have been related to a bug that was in the Web core module, that prevented opening the accounting module in developer mode. I did try it after I'd upgraded the web module.

I got the same issue and it is not resolved yet

Hi Ali,

I had the same error when importing a chart of accounts at the initial setup of a company. I noticed that in my new V16 database, when setting up the accounting module, an empty unposted miscellaneous journal entry was created. I guess this could be used to manually create an opening balance. After deleting this empty journal entry, the error no longer appeared.

I hope this helps you..

Excellent tip. This fixed it for me.

Thank you! I had the same problem and I could solve with this. When I deleted it, import and test, it was ok, but when I import AFTER testing, the error came again. If you introduce some data in the journal BUT do not publish it, and then import without testing, it will import your COA. Make a backup just in case.

Hi Ali Hussain,
Please check is there any account move which has no move lines in it (might be any miscellaneous entry). This will raised by system if it has any future entry with check auto post or the move which has no move line in it.

Hope it will help you.

I resolved this. I had accounts receivable & accounts payable configured as current asset & current liability.  I changed the types to receivable & payable and it resolved the issue.

This answer does not solve the issue.  Follow the tutorial and does not work in 16.

Hi, i had the same error.

The problem is that in the import field, there is a column that expects a value and the field is empty now. The value if empty, should be 0. If you don't need the column, don't select it for the import.

Kind regards,

Reinoud

I have the same issue and still cannot fix it. I am trying to import chart_of_accounts(Odoo 16) and the template is pretty simple, but it throws the same "You need to add a line before posting." error. Please let me know if there is a possible solution to this.
Field name used in the template: code, name, account_type, reconcile, note
