I have been doing research on this, however, it just isn't clear to me the direction to take here.

I setup odoo (including an ecommerce site) on a linode server.  I now want to setup a second website (which I have done within Odoo).  Thanks to some help I got here I have the two websites working quite well together (although one is not yet live), the 2 sites share a few pages and things are good.  However, my next step is to put my second site under a different domain name (i will purchase a second name).  Some linode people were pointing me in the direction of virtual hosts or something (I assume defined on linode), however, they weren't familiar with Odoo.  So my general question is - which path do I go down, trying to setup both sites via virtual hosts (or something) on the linode side or can all the required setup be done via Odoo.  I watched a video where the person went into the Odoo database setup and created both of his sitenames there - not sure if this is the direction to take or not.  As it turned out I could not figure out how to get into the Odoo database setup anyways.  To summarize, I am hoping to have two distinct website names on my Odoo that can share some pages but that obviously have two different URL's which users can call up on their browser.

Hi,

To set up two websites with different domain names in Odoo v15, you can follow these steps:

  1. Purchase the second domain name and point it to your Linode server's IP address.

  2. Set up a reverse proxy on your Linode server to direct incoming traffic to the correct website based on the domain name. You can use a web server like Nginx or Apache to configure the reverse proxy.

  3. In Odoo, create a new website and configure it with the second domain name. You can do this by going to Website > Configuration > Websites and clicking on "Create" to add a new website. Then, fill in the details for the new website, including the domain name.

  4. Configure the pages and content for the second website. You can use Odoo's website builder and CMS features to create and customize the pages for the second website.

  5. Set up the shared pages or content that both websites will use. You can create these pages in Odoo and then link to them from both websites.

  6. Test the configuration by accessing both websites using their respective domain names.

Hello and thank you very much for the direction. I have essentially done your steps 3-5. Step 2 is the one I have been a bit unsure about. I had read something about using virtual hosts but did not know how to proceed. Although I do not understand reverse proxy's your description of it makes sense for what I am trying to do here (direct incoming traffic to correct website). When you say to use a web server - does odoo have a built in webserver? I ask because when i setup my odoo on linode it just had an odoo package to install (I didn't knowingly install anything else). Also, will there be settings I need to add in linode under the 'domains settings' - there are settings there for SOA Record, NS Records, MX Records, A/AAAA Record, CNAME Records etc. Much thanks.

Does Odoo have any documentation on how this is done - in particular step #2 as you noted above. I have scoured the internet looking for such direction, however, cannot find anything to assist. Certainly I have seen lots of info from odoo going on and on about how great the solution is because you can setup multiple websites. Unfortunately, they do not fully outline how to set this up (at least not that I have found)

Hi Johnny:

The following link provides the information you need to do step 2.
