"What are the correct steps to unbuild a manufactured product when using a 3-step manufacturing process (Pick → Produce → Store)? Should I create the unbuild directly from the manufacturing order, or is it necessary to first return the finished product transfer to bring it back to the production location, and also return the raw materials transfer from production to stock?"

Overview

Unbuilding reverses the build process—disassembling finished products back into their components and updating inventory accordingly. This is useful for reclaiming parts from defective builds or breakers.

Step-by-Step Guide
  1. Navigate to “Unbuild Orders”
Go to Manufacturing → Operations → Unbuild Orders, and click New to create your order.
  2. Fill in key fields
    • Product: Choose the finished product to unbuild. BoM auto-fills.
    • Bill of Materials: Confirm or change as needed.
    • Quantity: How many units to disassemble.
    • Manufacturing Order (optional): Select if unbuilding from a specific MO for traceability.
    • Source Location: Where the product currently resides.
    • Destination Location: Where reclaimed components will go.
    • Lot/Serial Number: Use if tracked.
  3. Confirm the Unbuild
Click Unbuild at the top. Odoo deducts the finished product from stock and returns individual components to inventory. Any unusable parts should be scrapped afterwards.
  4. Review stock moves
After unbuilding, use the Product Moves smart button to view details of the returned components.
  5. Scrap unusable parts (if needed)
If some parts are damaged post-unbuild, use a scrap order on those components to keep stock accurate.
