You or your customer has just acquired a GoDaddy website domain and want to set it up, BUT ... how do we do it? Well, this forum post is for you :)
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- CRM
- e-Commerce
- Accounting
- Inventory
- PoS
- Project
- MRP

First off. You have to acquire your Godaddy website domain which is …. A whole different tutorial (although it’s pretty easy).
Now, following your acquisition, we are going to the upper right corner of the tab and select my profile - my products
In here we’ll go to our Domain and click on DNS
*It is important to mention that I acquired a “naked” domain without “www”
In here we have to do two steps:
First we have to set a CNAME type of subdomain from where we want to reach our Odoo database. The configuration is:
Type: CNAME
Name: www
Value: Your odoo DB url
TTL: default
It should look as follows:
If you can’t register this, it’s because your domain was acquired as a “naked” domain. Therefore you have to delete any of the other entries that may include a CNAME type of entry with the “www” name.
Before moving on. What the f&%# did we just do? Well … we told our Godaddy website domain that whenever anyone types “www.yourgodaddywebsitedomain.com” (with “yourgoddaydwebsitedomain” I refer to the one you acquired) it should be forwarded to your Odoo DB. Of course there is a more technical aspect to this but if we all knew this technical aspect … perhaps we wouldn’t be reading this post hahaha
So, the next step is to add a “forwarding” from our GoDaddy domain to … our Godaddy domain. Sounds confusing right? Well it kind of is, but this is the logic. Since we told GoDaddy that we want the “www.yourgoddadywebsitedomain.com” URL to redirect to our Odoo DB, this means that whoever writes “yourgodaddywebsitedomain.com” without the “www” will not be able to reach our domain.
So, we have to go to “Mi account - Domains”
Then to “manage all” (not sure if this is the actual translation hahaha)
We’ll click on the “more options” dots and then we’ll search for the “forward” option
Here we’ll have to add our GoDaddy website domain with the “www” added and select an option of “forwarding” (I suggest permament or masked).
**I noticed that adding “https://” rather than “http://” was faster in the linkage with Odoo.
What we just did is … adding a forwarding from “yourgodaddywebsitedomain.com” to “www.yourgodaddywebsitedomain.com” which at the same time will redirect us to our Odoo DB. Seems like everything is working fine on GoDaddy’s side, now we have to set it up in Odoo.
We’ll go then to our DB’s website (or to odoo.com - my databases - click the engine icon of our desired db - website domain) and click on the following:
Once there we’ll click on “My website is ready”
And on the screen that will popup, we click on the “I have my own domain” option
At the next screen we just write our GoDaddy website domain with the “www” and search. If everything was done right, a message will be displayed notifying that the CNAME registry was found:
We confirm it and that’s all! Now customers and users can reach your DB by typing “yourgodaddywebsitedomain.com” or “www.yourgodaddywebsitedomain.com”. One last step you can do for Google indexation and SEO configuration, is to add this link at your website’s configuration (make sure this is your last step):
Tips:
Leave some minutes between steps, be patient. We are redirecting IP addresses and this usually takes time.
Make sure to do the steps in the exact order displayed here. Doing the Odoo “own domain” step before configuring the CNAME may “block” your website for security issues and users will not be able to reach it.
Consult the documentation from Odoo and GoDaddy in case of any questions:
thank you, this was perfect.
