No, It is not possible odoo search in your custom template. you have to do some customisation in dashboard.

Here I am giving some hints:

- "myInput" is my custom input place in xml file.

- In Js you have to write the keyup event for "myInput".
$cover_modal.find('#myInput').on('keyup', function()
{
var value = $cover_modal.find('#myInput').val().toLowerCase();
$cover_modal.find('tr').filter(function() {
$(this).toggle($(this).text().toLowerCase().indexOf(value) > -1)
});
});
- $cover_modal.find('tr'): This my custom div on which search event is executed.
