when I was trying to replay someone answer, I got this pop-up message "8 karma is required to perform this action. You can earn karma by having your answers upvoted by the community".

You can ask few good questions and get the up vote for that and earn some karma.
There is also a way to earn more karma by completing the courses and pass the exams.
Just like I did to your question.
Hi,
By default for new user Odoo provides around 7 karma. Then when you ask some questions(a newcomer definitely will have questions to ask), you can earn karma when someone up-votes your question or if you accept someone's answer as right.
