i am getting this error 


Element '<xpath expr="//p[@name=&#39;payment_communication&#39;]//t[@t-if=&#39;o.partner_bank_id&#39;]">' cannot be located in parent view

yes i have checked it and this is coming from base modules specifically in /odoo19/base/addons/account/views/report_templates.xml and the paragraph with this name exists in parent

Hi,
This error occurs because the XPath expression you provided is trying to locate an element that does not exist in the parent view. When Odoo processes an inherited view, it must find the exact element specified in the XPath; if the structure has changed, the tag isn’t present, or the wrong parent template is being inherited, Odoo cannot match the XPath and raises this error. Updating your XPath to reference an actual element.  Also ensure that your inherited template uses the correct parent view

Hello Maaz Aslam,
I hope you are doing well,

Change your inherit_id to account.report_invoice_document instead of account.report_invoice_document_preview, or use XPath //p[@name='payment_communication'] without the nested //t[@t-if='o.partner_bank_id'] part.

Hi Maaz,

This error happens because the XPath is pointing to an element that no longer exists in the original view. In other words, Odoo is trying to find <t t-if="o.partner_bank_id"> inside <p name="payment_communication">, but that structure isn’t there anymore.


This can happen if the base view changed in Odoo, or if another inherited view (loaded before yours) modified or removed those elements. So the best approach is to check the parent view and any other inherited views to see what changed.
