I would be greatful if anyone has any guidance on how to set-up the process flow of stock being released from a bonded warehouse, i.e. how to apply the customs duty as a landed cost. My client is working with the v14 SaaS online (so no customisations). I was trying out using the landed costs module to add the customs duty to the released stock , but for some reason, the warehouse to warehouse transfer (either as an OUT/IN or as an internal transfer) is not selectable on the landed cost screen. Maybe there's a better way, or something I'm doing wrong? The listed transfers seem only to relate to vendors/customer inventory movements. The key is to apply the duty to the released quantities, not necessarily the whole purchased consignment.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Alex
A financial transaction might be required to record taxes which intern could trigger the inventory move.
If the bonded warehouse is different entity then you could do an intercompany sale/purchase. If the stock in bonded warehouse is consignee stock then you could use a PO. If you selling directly to customer then recognize tax on sale order.
Thanks Jaideep. This is a single entity, 2 warehouses, bonded and main. The stock move from bonded to main is no issue, it can be a manual replenishment (OUT/IN pair of transfers), or and internal transfer (single step). The initial purchase from vendor goes to bonded warehouse, and releases are done from bonded to main on a periodic basis, where a customs bill is for the duty is done. So, duty is gone on the quantity released from the bonded warehouse. Thanks.
Thanks Alex, once the inventory transfer is complete from the bonded warehouse you can assign the duty paid for the transfer by providing the journal and account
Inventory -> Operations -> Landed costs
You would need to have the product set-up with FIFO or AVCO and automatic inventory valuation
Thanks Jaideep - indeed, that's where I'm having the issue. On trying to select the transfer in, it's not listed in the drop down list. It seems the only transfers listed are transfers in from vendors and transfers out to customers. I'll try putting the bonded warehouse as the 'contact' on the transfer and see if that makes a difference.
Hi Alex, understood! Think you need to use 2 step route, OUT from bonded warehouse to virtual location and IN to WH/Stock. You can then associate the duty to one of these operations. It might be set on an 'Operation Type' rather than contact. Thanks
Hi Jaideep, that's what I was doing - I set the main warehouse to resupply from the bonded warehouse, so when I execute a manual replenishment it generates both the OUT and IN transfers. The IN is not visible on the landed cost screen. After your suggestion, I did set on the main warehouse to have 2 step route for receipt (so input then stock), but that doesn't work either - the second step is an internal transfer from 'input' to 'stock', and that also doesn't show on the landed cost screen (drop-down list of transfers).
Hi Alex, it seemed to have worked while I tested. I used the 'delivery order' for OUT operation (stock to Virtual location) for bonded warehouse and 'Receive' operation for IN (virtual location to stock) in main warehouse. Believe you would need to apply the duty to OUT operation, but am not sure (certainly not both). Thanks
