We are currently facing a specific requirement-related challenge in our manufacturing business, where we produce custom advertising materials such as banners, posters, ad boards, LED promotion boxes, and stickers. Each product is unique in size, measurements, and raw materials based on client specifications.

Our concern arises from the complexity of managing a large volume of daily orders (approximately 1000) with each product being distinct. While some products may share a name, the variations in measurements and raw materials pose a significant challenge.

Creating individual products for each client order seems impractical and could lead to operational difficulties. Additionally, we require a solution that not only avoids this potential mess but also provides accurate manufacturing costs for each product. Automation of the final product costing process is essential for efficiency.

We are seeking guidance on how to effectively implement a solution in Odoo to address these challenges. Specifically, we are looking for a method to manage the diverse range of custom products without creating individual products for every order and ensuring accurate automated costing.

Your assistance in this matter would be highly appreciated.

Hi Amjith

This depends, of course, on the exact requirements. We have a customer where we create products based on the sales order, but the volume is not as large as in your question.

An alternative approach would be to 'group' products with similar specifications and create different BOMs (bills of materials) for the specific customer order. This way, the number of products is more limited, and you can group them by either manufacturing or reporting requirements.

Finally, if multiple BOMs are still too complex, and again, depending on the specific needs, you could move some elements to description field(s) on a manufacturing order. You loose even more info for selection, reporting, ..., but gain in simplicity.
