I would like to extend functionality of the equipment inside maintenance module and add couple fields that would hold information about detailed specification of a particular device (like installed CPUs, disks etc. inside laptops and PCs).

Right now I have simple text fields where user can type the name and parameters of a component (like CPU: “Intel® Core™ i5-4310M Processor 2,70 GHz (max: 3,40 GHz) 2 core”). But I think it would be good idea to have a database that will allow users to pick the desired CPU from the list. And for that I need an additional model (or many models).

I wonder what is recommended way to do this. Should I have separate model for CPUs, GPUs, disks etc.? Or one model for all components? I know this is dependent mostly on my preference but I wonder how more experienced people would do this.
