Why is it important?
Italy's government, like other European governments, has implemented a quickly approaching deadline that requires businesses to use a SDI access point when sending their invoices.
Italian businesses are required to send their invoices through SDI as of: 1 January 2024

What is SDI?
The Sistema di Interscambio (SDI) is Italy’s government-run platform for electronic invoicing. Managed by the Italian Tax Authority (Agenzia delle Entrate), SDI acts as an intermediary for sending and receiving e-invoices between businesses and public administrations. All e-invoices must be transmitted through SDI to be considered valid for tax purposes.
Am I required to use a SDI?
Italy has made electronic invoicing through the SDI platform mandatory for most businesses. This requirement applies to both B2B and B2G transactions and is part of Italy’s commitment to combating tax evasion and aligning with the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) initiative. The SDI system ensures all invoices are validated and reported directly to the tax authorities. More information
