About SDI
Sistema di Interscambio is Italy’s official platform for sending and receiving electronic invoices, mandated by law for B2B and B2G transactions. While other providers may charge per invoice, Odoo offers free, unlimited access to send and receive electronic invoices via SDI.
Why is it important?
Italy's government, like other European governments, has implemented a quickly approaching deadline that requires businesses to use a SDI access point when sending their invoices.
Italian businesses are required to send their invoices through SDI as of: 1 January 2024

What is SDI?
The Sistema di Interscambio (SDI) is Italy’s government-run platform for electronic invoicing. Managed by the Italian Tax Authority (Agenzia delle Entrate), SDI acts as an intermediary for sending and receiving e-invoices between businesses and public administrations. All e-invoices must be transmitted through SDI to be considered valid for tax purposes.
Am I required to use a SDI?
Italy has made electronic invoicing through the SDI platform mandatory for most businesses. This requirement applies to both B2B and B2G transactions and is part of Italy’s commitment to combating tax evasion and aligning with the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) initiative. How much does a SDI access cost?
Odoo gives free SDI access. For other SDI access points, the cost varies; many use a credit system or charge per document sent or received. With some businesses sending thousands of documents each year, the costs can add up quickly.
