How can I configure Odoo 18.0 Enterprise model so that certain user groups have read-only access to records, while still permitting all users to post comments?


R3cord rules are blocking comments also 

Kindly advise

Use separate record rules for the model and the mail.message model:

  1. Create a read-only record rule for your model (e.g., sale.order):
  # Settings → Technical → Security → Record Rules
  Name: Sales Order - Read Only Group
  Model: Sales Order
  Groups: [Your Read-Only Group]
  Domain: [(1, '=', 1)]  # All records
  Permissions: Read ✓, Write ✗, Create ✗, Delete ✗
  2. Create a mail.message rule to allow commenting:
  Name: Allow Comments on Sales Orders
  Model: mail.message
  Groups: [Your Read-Only Group]
  Domain: [('model', '=', 'sale.order')]
  Permissions: Read ✓, Write ✓, Create ✓, Delete ✗

 Key Point: Even with read-only access on the main model, users need Create permission on mail.message to post comments in the chatter.
