Unfortunately there is no documentation about managing batch (or lot) numbers in OpenERP v7. I see options like "Manage Logistic Serial Numbers" and "Manage Serial Numbers", but it is not clear how to use it.
So how can I implement and use batch (lot) numbers?
The wording in OpenERP is currently misleading. The current functionality should be called lot numbers, not serial numbers. See here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openobject-addons/+bug/1089879
