After a fresh install of Debian 7 Wheezzy Gnome2 64 bits and doing "todays" .deb install of 8.0 got this error:

:~$ openerp-server stop

OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/addons'

 

...i checked the folder and doesn't exist. So... and now?

I tried to create one with mkdir on root user and then:

:~$ openerp-server stop

and seems to work but when I start again I get:

admin@Admin:~$ odoo.py -c /opt/odoo/addons/odoo.conf -s
ERROR: couldn't write the config file cos' i am not odoo user and don't have permision, OK

I think it's easy to reboot and will work flawlessly. I also want addons of "country localization" of other unsupported addons, so it shows 3 path for that:

1) /home/admin/.local/share/Odoo/addons/8.0

2) /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/openerp/addons

3) /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/addons

Which one?

...i tryed on these 3 of them and it was not possible to see an extra-addons on shinnig brand new odoo final release!

What am I doing wrong?

hi,

there should be a config file in /etc/odoo-server.conf

if not it is in /path/to/odoo-server/debian/openerp-server.conf 
cp it to /etc/ (odoo-Default: /etc/openerp-server.conf)

the conf.file contains:
---------------------------------------------------
[options]
; This is the password that allows database operations:
; admin_passwd = admin
db_host = False
db_port = False
#you might have an other db user
db_user = odoo 
db_password = False
#for more addons path use "," between
addons_path = /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/openerp/addons, /opt/odoo/mycustomaddons
---------------------------------------------------

starting the server with ./path to your odooserver/openerp-server

I prefer the install with a shell-script via github. more of control ;-)

Hello here are my findings with the nightly DEB

Running odoo.py , will run the server with the user ownership instead of odoo.

To Run Odoo Server as "odoo"

sudo -H -u odoo odoo.py

It should work but you would get the previously mentioned error

OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/addons'

It means odoo is loading a "default" configuration file from "somewhere" (still haven't found where it is yet).

To enforce using the correct config file rerun the command providing the "correct" config file

sudo -H -u odoo odoo.py --config=/etc/odoo/openerp-server.conf

Hope it did some problem solving, but still scaffolding and other command tend to fail due to the "default configuration file that exists somewhere".

You should be probably be good by just creating an addon folder in the meantime

'/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/addons'
