Hello,

I am currently building a tool (not in odoo) which allows me to generate a bill of material for each bespoke wooden cabinet that I want to manufacture. Not one of these resulting cabinets is the same, and the difference is more than just size or number of components. Our clients can choose from thousands of possible materials to make the product in. What is common in each product are the categories of the components that are used. So I can confidently state that each product will use components classified as 'hardware' 'sheets of wood' 'labour hours', although I doubt whether that would make a material difference in the setup.

I would like to understand what the possibilities are in Odoo (irrespective of the version) of how this could be managed. The order of the client should be the driving force behind the existence of the product in the system.

I hope this is somewhat clear, if you need more information than please let me know.

Regards,

Hendrik

If the product has a standard recipe/formula, but you don't track inventory for the finished product, then a standard bill of materials (BOM) is more than sufficient. If you have product variants (such as color, material, etc.), these can be managed in Odoo as BOM variants. However, if each product is unique, meaning it's made to order, then it should be treated as a project, which would then go to production with its own specific BOM.
