The usual flow for our products is to leave our warehouse, stay with our customers for a while, then return to our warehouse. Sometimes a product is simply lost. What's the most suitable inventory location to create for this?

We use the Virtual Locations/Scrap for scrapping products and components with defects or expired for example, but a product that's lost feels a little bit different. Creating a new location such as Virtual Locations/Lost as an inventory loss location seems to make sense to me. But is this a scrap location as well? I would say no, as it's possible that the product still returns at some point.

What would your suggestion be?

Also, does someone have a bit more detailed information on what the exact purpose if of the separate stock.scrap model? What's special about a scrap location and the scrap model? It's not 100% clear to me.

Hi Simon,

the stock.scrap module is only another form view for a stock transfer. In the background it creates a normal stock move, same process like Receive, Internal Transfer or Delivery Operations. I think it is existing to help the user to create easy a stock transfer to a scrap location.

Regarding your process flow you can do what you want, there are no requirements or limitations in Odoo. After you have delivered a order to a customer then the product will be moved to the Customer location. If you want to create a new virtual location called "Lost Products" and you want to create a move from Customer location to Lost Products Location, then do it.

The Location Type "Inventory Loss" means only that this locations have no stock quant. And the "Is a scrap location" tickbox in the stock.location form is only used to show all locations with this option in the Scrap Module as Scrap Locations (selection list domain)
