So far I cannot filter products based on the presence or basence of product image (the image_1920 field)
Is there an alternative way to select the products with no image?
(sor far I have around 12000 active products , probably 50% without image)
image is key for the sales people to quickly select products at pos level
You can filter by image field in product as below:
In Version 16: as a workaround:
You can export all product and add image_1920 to the exported field and then from excel you can filter the image_1920 is blank.
this filter is not set up and cannot be set as the field image_1920 is not listed in the choice list of available fields
Why you want to use Image_1920? You can use image field from filters, and it do the job

You didn't mention the version, in version 16 the image field removed from the search
