I'm trying to find the XML document in the user-interface>views section, which formats the corpus for the PDF documents.
I found out that the report_layout is used for the HMTL report display.
Its content is mainly the html and body corpus for the external_layout_standard XML document which is inserted.
It does not change the PDF view/documents however.
The external_layout_standard XML document is also used for the PDF display/generation but seems to use another surrounding XML structure.

You can display PDF document using various view and methods like reports, html <embed> etc.
