I have noticed if I change the NAME of a Variant, the name of the Product Template is also changed (so all variants must have the same name).

I have noticed if I change the INTERNAL REFERENCE of a Variant, each variant retains a unique value (so all variants have their own internal reference).

I have noticed for some fields, like "Sales Price" when I change the value I am told "The sale price is managed from the product template. Click on the 'Configure Variants' button to set the extra attribute prices.

How can I find out which fields are shared between Product Templates and Product Variants, so that I can find out which fields will allow a unique value for each Product Variant?

In Developer mode, you can find the Fields Menu.

If you look at the definition of the NAME field on the Product Variant model, you will see a value of "product_tmpl_id.name" for the Related Field.

Filter the Fields to find all other (76) fields that will NOT allow you to have unique values per variant. Reverse the filter to find the fields that WILL allow you to have unique values per variant.
