We are new to Odoo but are a very IT savy organization. We are building our ecommerce store and the issue we are having is that we need product variants but we need them to associate to database products not just ficticious parts. As an example, we sell an automotive suspension system and as part of that purchase you have to pick shocks and there are 5 shock options. Those shocks have to be purchased on our end and run through the whole process like any product transaction. We tried using variants but there is no way to track inventory movement of parts sold through the e-store and we also found that the compounding effect of variants was going to leave us with hundreds of BOMs per item. I'm confident we're not the only ones dealing with this. The solution is simply to have optional products appear where the variants are today and then have drop down menus for those optional products. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

so shortly what problem?
you have variants. ok, but when you sold, you will by variants. where main issue?
Variants need to be linked to products
and they are linked. in odoo, when you create product it became product template and first variant.
after you create at least one variant, you will have template and linked to it two variants. so main problem what?
