Hello,

in OpenERP there was a third party module "Configurable Products" IIRC. Some days ago i read somewhere that configurable products are gone in Odoo 8 because they are not longer necessary due to the new variants-concept in Odoo. Is that correct?

Now I have problems to setup the multilevel-structured products and their BOM's? I give an example:

I have a main product, a ScrewBox. A sales person should be able to configure the single components inside that screwbox while creating a sales order and a correct MO should be created also. So the sales person should be able to place e.g. 20 pieces of a specific screw and 40 pieces of a specific washer. In the next sales order there should be 2000 pieces of screws and 1000 pieces of washers. Should I now create > 2000 variants on the ScrewBox for included subproduct screw? I think not but how to do? Do I have to change my apporach in defining product structure? And what if in my ScrewBox contains another subproduct, that should be configurable also?

Another question:

If I create a BOM, I have to specify the product for which that BOM should be created. And I can optionally set one of the product variants, one field below the product selectbox - but why? The settings for variants are then set in the components list for that product, aren't they?

Is there an actual documentation/examples on this topic somewhere, including variants, configuring the (sub-) products and there BOM's while creating a sales order. Or do I need another module?

Best regards,

Alex

No, I'm sorry.

I still don't know how to give the possibility to a sales person to define the inner content of that screwbox :-(
