We rent products to our customers for long periods of time (1y+).
For that, we are thinking of using the rental application which looks to be a good fit as we can easily follow where our products are exactly because they have serial numbers.
However, we cannot find a way to have a periodic invoicing for that (each months)... We do not want to invoice the total time of rent to our client in one invoice.
What do you recommend on doing ?

Hi,
you can add your storable product with unit price 0 , and create subscription service which related to subscription template
Note:
1. configure subscription template with your periodically invoice time -> this will allow you to automatically create INV for each period
2. set your subscription product as "recurrence" and set "subscription template"
3. you can still mange your rental product as storable but with 0 price for rental
Note: you add one unit of service subscription product as it will automatically create INV the next period
you add the full rented time range for rented storable product.

It works but, I believe it is far too complicated for such a simple workflow...
The subscription is not really linked to the product and therefore it is hard to have an overview of where the products are rented (serial numbers).

Regarding subscription it helps to invoice customer during different ranges of time -> it is only for invoicing purpose.
The actual rented tracked storable product is also added to SO with rental time range.
If you don't have many rented product "product template" you could manage multiple service products per rented storable product.
Customized solution: you could add some automation to include information in inv (add origin , source, serial number..) anything which is unique in your case.

A very good idea, would you know if the invoicing would be for the subscription product or the complete SO?
As an example what would the SO need to have if the rental product is rented at $100 a month for 15 months and requires to be invoiced monthly. While rental product line would have complete time range what would be the price and what would the price for the subscription product.

I checked your solution in odoo16, the problem is it's making the SO to returned after first month invoice. Also the next invoice is containing only subscription product not the storable as well. Any solution for that ? Thanks in advance.
