What is the way to register a customer payment on SO that I am not planing to invoice?

I read that you can make a transaction and link it to a SO but I find no way to do that in V12. I can create a customer payment but the transaction is not set.

There are modules available for older versions of Odoo but I am looking for solution for V11 or V12.

Maybe introducing a new state - Payed and implementing register payment with a button like on the invoice.
