This is the process that has been released by one of odoo's lead developers and is now being updated on the GitHub Wiki.  I will keep this answer updated as new data becomes available.

1. Offline Release Candidate 1 available 7 July 2014
2. V8 migration scripts (Enterprise Customers) 24 July 2014 (Community Upgrade)
3. Offline released stabilized -> bugfixes 14 August 2014
4. Translation templates available: Server, WebAddons (See wiki14 August 2014
5. Migrate the odoo.com website -> bugfixes 19 August 2014
6. nightly.odoo.com/8.0/nightly deb/exe/rpm/src packages available 31 August 2014
7. First Launchpad -> GitHub migration of translation files 8 September 2014
8. Publish odoo.com/documentation/8.0/ 15 September 2014
9. Deployed on Odoo Online for new customers -> bugfixes 17 September 2014
10. Migrate online customers -> bugfixes 17 September 2014
11. Final stable release 18 September 2014

    Download, Release Notes, Presentation, Announcement, Video, Hosted Version
12. Update apps.odoo.com to pull v8 modules from GitHub 12 December 2014

This process usually takes a month or so for the average release, but we know that this one is harder than the average due to Launchpad -> GitHub move, new API and new CMS modules.

Statistics:

  • 73 days from release candidate 1 until version 8 stable release.
  • 153 days until the full odoo.com ecosystem supported version 8.

@Stephen, Thanks for the update. I'll keep an eye on this thread for the final dates for points 6-8.

@Stephen: you seem to be involved in v8 release process to some extend. Maybe you have an opinion to share of my other question regarding stability of v8 https://www.odoo.com/forum/help-1/question/are-classic-erp-modules-in-v8-as-stable-as-they-where-in-v7-already-60117 ?

Author

Gunner, I am not involved in the release process. I only read the emails from the various email groups, facebook, twitter, youtube accounts. My comments are my own and the information that I have listed here has been pulled together from various messages from odoo employees.

Odoo has updated their website to v8

Here: https://www.odoo.com/forum/help-1/question/what-made-most-of-the-odoo-forum-user-profiles-private-60737 is an issue that came up after the recent upgrade. Do we know which branch they really used to update? Is it https://github.com/odoo/odoo/tree/8.0 ?

Author

I can only imagine that it was that branch. If you click on your name in the upper right hand corner on the odoo.com website to go into the back-end of odoo. Then click your name again and select about odoo it says v8rc1.

First full nightly packages available including windows installation. There might be some issues with the deb package: https://github.com/odoo/odoo/issues/798

Now waiting for step 7. Several labels are not correctly translated. See also https://github.com/odoo/odoo/issues/1755

I have been checking daily but so far nothing.

Odoo has announced that all new online customers will be given saas-6 (odoo v8) and they have begin to migrate the other online customers to saas-6. Once this finishes they will be ready to release v8

Author

Odoo released v8 stable today. Packages are available at nightly.odoo.com

Author

apps.odoo.com was updated to pull v8 apps from github. The final missing step is the official release of saas-6
