Hi I am trying to setup my Odoo V.10 but i am facing some issues.

We have not very complex production process, actually it's assembly process.  What we do is to ordering parts from our suppliers and later assembling the final product. I would like to use the MPS if not to automate the purchase itself, at least to be able to see demand for the different components so we can place the orders. It is very similar to the computer shops where a computers are build up on the the customer specifications.

I am facing two major issues.

1. This one probably have not solution. We ordering component A that includes component B and C. Initial idea was to use BOM and when we order component A with its BOM to be  generate order for component A, but to be able to keep track of the sub-components B and C. What i found that i either can track component B and C if i configure a kit or i can track component A but then B and C are not traceable any more. We are pretty much accept the fact and probably we will trace only the component A and skip C and B from our inventory.

If someone know a solution on that problem this will be really great help.

2. This problem is related to how the MPS works, i got a bit confused and I am not sure any more what route to use and should i use byproducts or not.  My typical product let say A include few other products B,C,D. Where let say B = E+F and C=H+G , so they have they own BOM's. Produc A should be manufactured and for it should be create a MO, products B let say is a sub-assembly, where we supply E and F and assemble it before put it in to A. Product C we just need to supply H and G and use them in the product A assembly process.  Product D is also buy product, usually fasteners, etc.

So i was trying different configuration for the final Product A, for its parts C and B but something not looks right. I either got a MO but not PO, either i had PO generated but no MO. We are pretty much OK if we don't have MO for the sub-assemblies B and treat them as pure supply, the same as B and D, but at least we want to have MO for product A itself, and PO for the product B,C and D.

I read almost all that i found in the internet, i watch a lot of video tutorials, but i din't find a clear explanation regarding the routes and BOM types.

Any help will be appreciated.

Some update.

I set a settings that may be will works. I configure the top Product A as for manufacture, but doesn't matter how i configuring one of its part that is another BOM i was not able to got a separate work order also for this part. This is not huge issue, finally i setup this Product as a kit, and at list i have PO for the components inside.

i still can't make MPS works properly or at least the way it works i not the way i expect. I add my top product and set 80 pcs per week. So is it not supposed that the MPS should put the required PO and MO based on the schedule of production ? Instead it generate only for the first day, that is green, when i use "Launch green cells" but why only first day is in greeen. I have the lead times for the components in this products and the 40-50 dyas, is it not suppouse MPS to release PO and MO based on the lead times for supply and manufacturing of the products.

let say i have 50 pcs this week and 50 pcs next week, but if the system wait unitl next week to put the PO for the next week, that i am not sure will happen, but even if, it's too late, because the lead time for supply and production is longer. i was expecting at least to have reservation for those products, what actually should be because i use "buy" route.

Also i was not able to really remove the product from MPS, whatever i try it not works, currently i am in testing and it's easy, i just switch off/on this function from the settings, but in real operation this will not works.

Hi Lars, thank you for the post.

I am not sure anymore which is my odoo version, i am using online one, and now i see my data base is v.12, i am not sure is this mean all the modules are V.12. When i purchase it i am almost sure it was v.10.

Product H and G are also components.

Tracing, i mean to be able to track the activity, why this parts was reserved, for which MO etc. Instead MPS i add a sales module, so with the sales module i can crate orders and those orders generate MO and PO. I still not sure can this give me all the functions that i need, but at least for now looks OK. Our production is on roiling forecast, but i know pretty good the customer for each batch of products, so we can issue an orders from the sales module.

I am still wondering why MPS not take in consideration my planing for the future, and why not issuing at least PO for those items, but working with sales orders, i no need MPS functionality, or at least for now.

A few personal remarks: The MPS in Odoo is not working properly in V11.  And I cannot get any support for multilevel manufacturing.

Fir the running the scheduling: It does not support multilevel in a single run. You have to run it just as many times as you have levels in your BOM's.

Product H and G looks to be tools and not consumed in the process?  In that case It is not common to have it stock managed.

Tracing: Is either serial numbers or lot numbers. But when you say you cannot trace product B & C I am not sure you mean traceability?
