Hi,

We are hoping to use Odoo Manufacturing + Inventory, but need to find a solution to the following problem.

We manufacture approximately 40 different products with the length of each product customised to the client's specification and can be [100 ..... 3000] mm. This is similar to pneumatic cylinders that can be manufactured to custom lengths.

How do I go about adding my 40 products with some of the components (ie: steel rod, etc) being a function of the length manufactured?

Please enable variant option and try to do the same.

Hi Midhun, unfortunately it seems the variant option only allows for variant selection (ie: XS, S, M, etc) as opposed to a textbox where I can enter the required length. This means I would have 2,900 variants per product (ie: 100mm, 101mm, 102mm, 103mm, etc) which isn't practical.

You can create length attribute can import length details(I will update the screenshot in answer), but in your case number of variants is too high..

This is also our problem: the configurator does not allow dimensional parameters (we are also dealing with bars cut to length in mm according to the customer's specifications).
If someone has an idea for this .....

Hello Max,

What about creating 40 BoMs (one for each of your products) for a length of 100mm and the required components for each.

Of course to have a follow up of your products you should set up serial numbers.

When you create a MO, whatever the length of the manufactured product is, the quantities required are automatically computed.

You can then tweek those quantities to match the reality.
