Can anyone share an overview of the process that I can follow to set up my Point of Sale?
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- CRM
- e-Commerce
- Accounting
- Inventory
- PoS
- Project
- MRP

1. Create the Points of Sale needed
- One Point of Sale per shop
- If you have various checkouts in your shop, you should create one Point of Sale per checkout
E.g.: I have 2 shops. Each shop has 2 checkouts. I would then have 4 Points of Sale in my database.
2. Create your payment methods
You can configure them on Configuration > Payment Methods. Each payment method has to be linked with the right accounting journal. You then link the payment methods with your Points of Sale: Configuration > Point of Sale > Payment methods.
Cash payment method: you should create one cash payment method per Point of Sale. Each cash payment method should be linked to its own accounting journal.
Bank payment method: you could have various payment methods related to your bank accounts. E.g.: debit card payment and bank transfers. You create as many bank payment methods as you need. Each bank payment method should be linked with the right accounting journal. You have one accounting journal per bank account.
E.g.: VISA and debit card payments are linked with the same bank account. They will then be linked with the same accounting journal in Odoo.
3. Configure the Point of Sale according to your needs
Do I need:
Pricelists?
Fiscal positions?
Coupons and/or promotion programs?
Gift cards?
To ship my products later?
Etc.
You will find those configurations in Configuration > Point of Sale. You can refer to this documentation: https://www.odoo.com/documentation/15.0/applications/sales/point_of_sale.html
4. Link your payment terminals with Odoo
Some payment terminals are integrated. This means the total amount from my order is automatically sent to my payment terminal. The payment validation is also sent automatically to Odoo. Those are the integrated payment terminals currently available:
You can refer to the documentation to configure them: https://www.odoo.com/documentation/15.0/applications/sales/point_of_sale/payment.html
You can work without integration. In this case you will have to manually introduce the order amount on the payment terminal, and confirm the payment in Odoo.
5. Test your devices
Before the go-live, test your printers, barcodes, scales, payment terminals, etc.
In case your devices need the IoT box, configure them. You can find the documentation here: https://www.odoo.com/documentation/15.0/applications/productivity/iot.html
