We have 2 step manufacturing set up in Odoo (pick components and then manufacture).

When I complete the picking action and validate the quantities, the Manufacturing Order is stuck in the "Waiting for Components" state. My understanding was once I validated the components picked, it would then send the Manufacturing Order to the first work center to begin production. However after completing my pick I do not see an option to trigger the Manufacturing Order in a "Ready" state.

I would post pictures but I do not have enough Karma to do so.

Does anyone have any idea what I may be missing here?

I'm fairly new to Odoo so I do not have a definitive answer but I wanted to comment that it in my experience it should automatically set the manufacturing order and work order(s) to Ready once the items have been picked. However, I have been primarily using the MTO route to create MOs from the confirmed SOs.

Also, are you sure the items are being moved into the Pre-Production location? Perhaps they are being picked into a different location?

Finally, just to check your sanity, you might try creating a new trial for testing purposes and make some simple items and a BOM to see what happens.

Hey buddy, did you got the solution?

Hi Kevin,

I assume you are talking about the "work order" status showing as Waiting for components?

We use 2-step too and there are all sorts of interesting things that can happen.

If you have any validated manufacturing orders, where the picking operation was not completed, the quantity of components in pre-production will have gone into a negative. If you have a manufacturing order again for the same product, using the same components, and you complete the picking, all this will do is bring the quantity on hand in pre-production back to zero.

For example, I have an MO to make 1 x plug assembly, the BOM has 1 x Plug & 1 x Cable. I can validate the MO without transferring stock (not correct, but possible). This puts pre-production to -1 Plug & -1 Cable.

Next MO i have for 1 x plug assembly, I complete the pick components transfer for 1 x Plug and 1 x Cable. This puts pre-production back to 0 x Plug and 0 x Cable.

In this scenario, your MO would still show as Waiting for Components as there is no quantity of them in pre-production.

Another thing to check is on the miscellaneous tab of your BOM is the "manufacturing readiness" set to "When all components are available" or "When components for 1st operation are available"?

If it is the former then all components on the MO must be picked and reserved before first operation shows as ready.

If it is the latter then when the components are transferred that are to be consumed in the 1st op, it will show as "ready". If you do not state any components that are consumed in an operation then as soon as 1 component is picked, the WO will show as ready.

As the other poster stated, it would be worth checking the pick component transfer is being picked to (destination) Pre-Production, and also check the MO miscellaneous tab that the "component location" is also Pre-Production.
