Currently, Odoo supports few payment providers for its POS credit card processing. However, this does not mean that all the devices related to the payment providers will be compatible directly with Odoo. The list below provides a list of devices per payment provider that are compatible with Odoo along with a few important pointers that need to be taken into consideration before deciding on the terminal. 

Note for the Community: 

Please feel free to add more payment terminals that you might have tested on your end and have made work using standard functionality so that we can pool the resources together. Questions are welcome as well.

How about M20 Mobile Terminal?

As far as I know, that is not supported. Also the devices depend on the payment acquirer related to it so which payment acquirer will be used with the M20 terminal?

1) STRIPE: 

  • Stripe payment terminals do not require an IoT Box
  • Stripe terminals can be used in many countries, but not worldwide. Make sure to check the available countries and currencies here: https://support.stripe.com/questions/global-availability-for-stripe-terminal
  • Stripe’s integration works with the Stripe Terminal smart reader which means it needs to have Wifi/Network compatibility. Bluetooth-only devices will not directly integrate with Odoo. Here is the recommended list: 
  • The device must be connected to a secured WI-FI network. This works with a Mobile Hotspot as well.
  • Your Odoo database and payment terminal must share the same network


2) ADYEN:

  • Adyen payment terminals do not require an IoT Box
  • ​Adyen terminals can be used in many countries, but not worldwide. Make sure to check the available countries and currencies here: https://docs.adyen.com/point-of-sale/what-we-support/supported-languages/
  • Adyen works only with businesses processing more than $10 million annually or invoicing a minimum of 1,000 transactions per month.
  • When it comes to selecting devices for an Adyen payment terminal, make sure it supports at least one Ethernet, Wifi, or Cellular network, Only Bluetooth devices will not integrate with Odoo. 
  • Another point to note is, that Adyen is ending its 3G network coverage, and certain older devices support only 3G network which is old so it is best to avoid these terminals if you are planning to use Cellular as your mode of network, examples are e285p, V240m Plus. 
  • Considering the above conditions here is a list of terminals we recommend:

3) VANTIV:

  • Please note MercuryPay only operates with US and Canadian banks, making this procedure only suitable for North American businesses
  • ​Vantiv card readers should be purchased exclusively from Vantiv, as certain Vantiv terminals bought on Amazon do not include the correct encryption needed to be used with an Odoo database.
  • The device Odoo supports is "Swipe Only" so we do not recommend Vantiv in general since its older technology
  • If you still choose to go with Vantiv, the device we recommend is "Magtek Dynamag"

Does the odoo POS run directly on the stripe terminals? Or do I need a computer/mobile device running that separately?

You would still need to have a computer/mobile/tablet running the POS session and connected to the same network as the Stripe Terminal
