Bit of a noob question, I see that there is versions 9, 10 and now 11 on the way. While ago we installed version 8 on our server with the idea of moving onto using it instead of Magento. I am wondering if this version is still good to be used ? or would v9 or 10 be more suitable and if so why ? p.s. community version only.

Thank you very much guys for your help. Timo Talvitie the newer versions look like more appealing. Silly question again, both still open source ?

Also, no realson to stay on 8.0 we haven't used odoo in production as of yet. Trying to grasp how to fully use it first. No custom modules whatsoever.

Furthermore, good point, we have installed quite a few modules but not sure if they have been ported or not.

Here are some points to consider to help you with the decision:

-Check the release notes for versions 9 and 10 (https://www.odoo.com/page/odoo-9-release-notes and https://www.odoo.com/page/odoo-10-release-notes). Do they list features that would be useful to you? If you use e.g. accounting, website or warehouse management modules, the newer versions probably will have helpful improvements for you.

-Do you have any specific reason to stay with 8.0? For example, have you done a lot of custom modules for 8.0 that would be tedious to port to newer versions? Are you using many community modules (from OCA or elsewhere)  that have not yet been ported to newer versions?

-If you are going to upgrade eventually anyway, it is probably going to be faster and cheaper to do it now rather than later, when the system contains much more data.

I've worked with V8 for a long time and still is well supported and rock solid.

The primary modules, both officials and OCA were ported for V9 and V10.

If you need to stay with the old API, for example if you have developed modules yourself, be aware that starting from V10 the old API isn't working anymore even if there is a partial solution using @api.model, still used for some definitions.

I'm porting some of my oldest modules from V8 to V10 right now, and beside some understanding issues (documentation is far from perfect) with the new API is working fine and is pretty fast too compared to V8.
Lastly, I never used the enterprise version, I never felt the necessity.
It's your call, but if I were you I'll prefer the V10.
If you have't see it already, here you can find a comparison Odoo vs Magento, but please be advised they're comparing Odoo Enterprise vs Magento, not the CE.

Ermin I am also trying to gasp how everything in odoo works, is there a good documentation base to learn everything ? e.g, the sales flow. What stage customers get order confirmations and so forth?

From version 9.0 on, there are 2 editions available, the open-source community edition and the proprietary-licensed enterprise edition.
