Odoo v16 has the ability to ensure that operations of a Manufacturing order have dependencies so that the Work orders follow a particular path.

Now my question is when a MO has a child MO (Sub-Assembly in the BOM). Now, in most cases the child sub-assembly should be made first before the main MO.

I can see that the scheduled date of the child MO is reflected on the parent MO as a date when the sub-assembly (child MO) has been scheduled.

My question is: Is there something within Odoo that will automate the scheduling of the MOs such that the child MO gets scheduled first.

If there isn't hat would be the best way to go about scheduling the MOs?

My first instinct would be to manually schedule the dates of the child MOs first and use that as a reference while entering a schedule date in the parent MO and then proceeding to hit the "Plan" button.

I am not familiar with Odoo 16 on this yet.
But in planning you would most often plan bottlenecks first. If you have two work centers in this flow, then you would start the planning for the work center with less free capacity. In the context of your question: It is not obvious to always start the planning with the child MO.
Also it not so that we would always wait for the child order to be finished before we can start the mother MO. I now have a business case, where we just need a certain qty from the child order, before we can start the mother order. Then they can run in parallel.

To configure a planning system that will work for all businesses in all situations is almost impossible. And Odoo is on this very basic. That they now have dependencies is a big step forward to save time in planning. I think.
