We are a Swiss jewelry retailer. We want to integrate our website with Odoo.

Current status of the online store:

We offer configurable products (for example, we can choose the type of jewelry (ring, bracelet, etc.). We want the customer to be able to choose the material (gold, silver, etc.), the size, and the type of stone (diamond, emerald, etc.) based solely on existing inventory. To get a direct view of inventory status.

So, here are the questions:

- Is it better to use the Odoo online store or WordPress with an Odoo interface?

- We want a direct link to the current inventory in the final online store (for example, if only two materials are available for a selected item (ring, bracelet, etc.) (rose gold and silver, for example), the end customer will only have access to that choice (and not to other out-of-stock options).

Thanks

Hi David,

We are Kanak Infosystems LLP (official Odoo Partner) with extensive experience in eCommerce and inventory integration, we’re happy to assist you in creating a seamless and inventory-aware online shopping experience for your Swiss jewelry business.

Based on your queries:

1. Odoo Online Store vs WordPress with Odoo Integration

If your priority is tight integration with inventory, sales, and backend operations, we highly recommend using the Odoo eCommerce module over WordPress. Here’s why:

  • Native integration with Odoo’s Inventory, Sales, Accounting, and CRM modules ensures real-time data syncing.
  • Easy management of product variants (material, stone, size) directly tied to inventory.
  • Simplified backend for order processing, invoicing, and fulfillment.
  • Mobile-responsive themes and strong customization options are already available in Odoo.

While WordPress with a connector (e.g., WooCommerce-Odoo) is possible, it typically introduces syncing delays and requires additional maintenance.

2. Real-Time Inventory-Based Product Configuration

Yes, Odoo fully supports this requirement.

Using Odoo’s product variants and attribute filtering, we can:

  • Dynamically show only in-stock combinations to customers (e.g., if "Gold + Emerald" is out of stock, it will not appear as an option).
  • Implement real-time inventory visibility per configuration, so customers can only choose from available options.
  • Customize the product page to make selection intuitive and user-friendly—ideal for premium, configurable products like jewelry.

We’d be happy to provide a demo or explore a tailored implementation plan for your specific use case.

Hi David,

Pros of Odoo eCommerce:

  • Native integration with your inventory — changes in stock reflect instantly on the website.
  • Configurable products can be tied directly to existing product variants and inventory.
  • No middleware needed for syncing, reducing maintenance and complexity.
  • Full control over logic like showing only available variants (e.g., only rose gold and silver if others are out of stock).
  • Easier order processing and fulfillment flow within Odoo (sales, invoicing, shipping, etc.).

Showing Only In-Stock Options to Customers:

This is 100% achievable with Odoo eCommerce and its product variant filtering system:

  • You can define all possible combinations as product variants.
  • Odoo will only show combinations that are in stock, if configured correctly.
  • You can use the standard feature to:
    • Show or hide product variants based on availability.
    • Customize product pages to dynamically filter options (e.g., disable out-of-stock material/stone/size choices).

Summary Recommendation:

  • Use Odoo eCommerce, especially since your core requirement is real-time inventory filtering for configurable jewelry products.
  • Make sure to enable and configure the variant management and stock visibility options.
  • Consider custom theming if you need a more polished visual appearance, but the backend functionality will be solid and easier to maintain than with WordPress.

We suggest, Go with Odoo's built-in online store instead of WordPress. Here's why it makes sense:

Real-time stock updates - Your website will always show what's actually available in your warehouse. No more customers ordering things that are out of stock.

Automatic product options - If you're out of a specific size or material, it automatically hides that option so customers can't select it. This prevents frustration and confusion.

Less headache - Everything works together smoothly since it's all one system. With WordPress, you'd need extra plugins and connectors that can break or cause delays.

Better customer experience - People only see what they can actually buy, making shopping smoother and reducing support tickets.

Odoo's native store is designed to work perfectly with your inventory system, while WordPress integration adds unnecessary complexity. Keep it simple and go with what's built to work together.

I hope it helps you.

Hi,

Recommendations for your online store integration:

It is better to use Odoo’s built-in eCommerce platform instead of WordPress integrated with Odoo. Odoo’s native solution is designed to work seamlessly with your backend processes, reducing complexity and maintenance efforts.

Odoo eCommerce provides real-time synchronization with your inventory. This means that stock levels are always up to date on the website, so customers only see what is actually available in your warehouse.

Customers will only be able to select product options (materials, sizes, stones) that are currently in stock. If a specific variant is out of stock, it will automatically be hidden or disabled to prevent disappointment or confusion.

Integrating WordPress with Odoo for live inventory updates can be complicated and may require additional middleware or plugins, which can introduce delays or errors in stock visibility.

Odoo’s platform automatically manages visibility of product variants based on inventory availability, ensuring that customers have a smooth shopping experience with no unavailable options shown.

For configurable products that depend on stock availability, Odoo’s online store offers the most efficient, reliable, and user-friendly way to display options and manage orders without manual updates.

Hope it helps.
