As I go along with the videos online, I realized there are a lot inconsistency between the trial version and the once they use for the tutorial videos.

My point being that as one trying to study for the v12 functional exam, how can I be properly prepared for it if the material given is not consistent?

For example, I cannot find Accounting > new invoice > due date in the current trial version.

Is there more material for us to prepare for the functional exam? What topics will the exam cover?

Trial version might be v13 and the videos are of v12

@Niyas so does the video covers everything that will be on the exam?

Hi Yu,

The videos where made in version 12 while the trail versions are version 13 so it is normal to see quite some inconsistencies as Odoo keeps evolving. The e-learning team creates quite some new content though (they have about 64 new videos planned) so you might see an updated version come up in the future. To me the real problem is that they do not segment/mention the versions so that you can easily find the right ones.

As for the exam: the e-learning isn't specifically built to train you for the functional exam. It is built to help people understand concepts in Odoo. If you just follow these e-learning videos it won't be a guarantee for you to pass the exam or in fact a guarantee that the questions come up in the exam too. See them as two different components in the Odoo eco-system. I know the e-learning team is trying to bring them closer together in the future though.

The main topics you should know well functionally are accounting, purchase, sales, website, CRM and project. Those have the most questions on the exams and are the most difficult questions. You'll find various tutorials and guides online about Odoo concepts but at the moment there is no real go-to place that has it all. :)

Best of luck,
Yenthe

How did you prepare to pass the exam?

Basically nothing but I've been doing Odoo projects for five years across multiple countries and with projects of all sizes. That helps a lot. The best way is practicing in test databases for sure.

The tricky thing is, for example, the community version v12 edition doesn't include accounting module, so I cannot use that one. Then the web version is v13, which has inconsistency in several modules here and there. How can I prepare for such exam if the exam is about the system, but it is not well documented? I really need to pass the exam.

You could test/train on runbot.odoo.com which has free enterprise databases to test things on. They might have changed some fields/views/layouts but the logic remains pretty similar in general.

Hi,

The examination questions address the system in general, it is necessary to be familiar with all Odoo Functional content. This knowledge can be acquired by viewing the videos on the E-learning platform, YouTube,  studying the user documentation, and since the system is constantly evolving, it is necessary practice and knowledge in the desired version, paying a special attention to the changes. It is also a advantage some degree of practical Odoo work experience.

I tried the exam for V12, and found that the questions is made in a way that it is difficult to understand what they ask. And for sure the answers are not in the documentation.

Did you pass?

Yes, I agree. The questions are written by somebody who is French which makes it harder to understand them (frenglish) plus there are some mistakes in the exams. The new e-learning guy is aware that the quality isn't very well so it is at least in somebody his brains as a todo for improving ;)

But for those who wants to take the exam, the price seems too high. If the exam questions and answers are not understandable, can we ask for refund?

No, it will be denied automatically. Its still pretty cheap, there are plenty of exams in the IT world that cost a lot more though.
