The Authorize.net payment page is terribly not customization. It is right out of the late 1990s. I am also have issues with the page returning back to Odoo.
Can the default authorize.net module save a customers card without redirecting to Auth.net payment page?

The short answer is no. The payments have to be processed and they have to pass through the Authorize webpage(s) right now. The card details itself are not stored within Odoo either but they're kept at Authorize itself.
If you have problems with the returning back to Odoo it means that you didn't configure the return URL correctly.
