Hello everyone,

I recently migrated from the Community edition to Enterprise and upgraded my database from version 18.0 to 18.3. I didn't notice it right away, but was very unpleasantly surprised to find that a familiar window in the Bill of Materials (Manufacturing module) was completely missing.

Previously, in the BOM, there was an ability to add operator instructions to each operation via a separate Work Sheet section — and we used this feature extensively.

Now it has simply disappeared, along with all the information we had stored in those fields.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to add screenshots to the post.

This change feels completely illogical and deeply frustrating. I had to contact Odoo technical support five times just to get confirmation that the Work Sheet section was indeed removed.

According to their explanation, this functionality has now been moved into the Quality Control module. However, this makes little sense in a production workflow, since instructions for operators and instructions for quality inspectors are fundamentally different and should not be merged into a single flow.

When I tried to follow up with further questions, the support team stopped responding altogether.

To make matters worse, there is no mention of this change in any changelog or official documentation — in fact, the Work Sheet section still appears in the current user manuals.

Even Odoo support agents themselves seem confused about what has happened and can't provide a clear answer.

Unfortunately, this is not the first regression I’ve noticed in the Manufacturing module since switching to the Enterprise version.

To be honest, my first impression of the paid version is one of complete disappointment.

Still, I would sincerely appreciate any official explanation from the Odoo team, or any insights from the community.

Perhaps there is a hidden setting I missed that brings this feature back.

Or, at the very least, guidance on how to recover the lost worksheet content and properly migrate it into the new quality control workflow — if that is truly the intended replacement.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

Regarding upgrades:

  • Please note that it’s always strongly recommended to thoroughly test your database before validating an upgrade. Each new version introduces multiple changes, so testing is a key part of the upgrade process to ensure everything works as expected.
  • Odoo is constantly evolving, and while the upgrade scripts are designed to handle most cases, they can’t be perfect for every scenario. That’s why your testing and feedback are so important, they help us identify issues and continuously improve the upgrade process.

Regarding worksheets :

  • Previously, there were two separate places to add instructions: at the operation level (in the worksheet section) and at the step (quality point) level. This led to redundancy and confusion for our customers.
  • Starting with version 18.3, we’ve streamlined this by centralizing all instructional content at the step level to ensure consistency and simplify usage.
  • Most users rely on PDF files as worksheets, which is why, during the upgrade, PDFs previously stored on operations are now moved to the chatter of the operation in V18.3.

In your case, you had non-PDF content (text or Google Slides) stored in the old worksheet field, which was not retained during the upgrade. Our team is aware of this and is working to improve the handling of such content for future upgrades. To recover your missing text or Google Slides worksheets, I already suggested simply restoring a backup of your V18.0, exporting your worksheets, and importing them into your V18.3 database in the proper place.

Thanks again for your understanding, and we truly appreciate your input as we continue to improve the upgrade experience.

Wishing you a great day !
