Hello Everyone,

We have been using OpenERP 7 from almost two years now and we wanted to customize some modules to meet our needs

Some freelancers mentioned that OpenERP 7 may cause the modifications to not be completed due to the possibility of not supporting the codes

They mentioned migrating to a newer version but they said all previously modified module will need to be done again due to new API

I want to know if our customized modules would work in newer versions and if the database would be compatible with a newer version

I cannot comment on your answer so I will have to make a new answer

Then it would be a better choice to migrate to Odoo 10 before we continue with our customization on OpenERP 7

Would I need to re-do all of my modifications and customization from scratch or I would need to only change few lines?

I don't know your modules, so how should I give you an answer ;-) But the way from 7.0 to 10.0 is quite far. However, I would recommend to migrate to Odoo 10.

What about the data inside the database, would I need to start from scratch or the data can be migrated?

I am new to OpenERP / Odoo so I am not sure what to do

If you can start from scratch, do it! You can migrate your data as I've written, but most probably it is tedious and cumbersome.

The answer is simple: No. Almost 100% sure your modules will not work out of the box and need portation. And the database structures are also not compatible from version to version and therefore you have to migrate your data. This was always and probably will always be Odoo's philosophy for the benefit of the progress of Odoo.
