I created a website form in Odoo with the action set to “Create an Opportunity.” When the form is submitted from the website, the record is directly created as an Opportunity in the CRM instead of being created as a Lead first.

Ideally, I expected a Lead to be created first and then converted into an Opportunity later. Why is the form creating an Opportunity directly, and what configuration might be causing this?

Can you kindly share a screenshot for this action availability on the website in Odoo v18?

Since i cannot see the option of "Create a Lead" on website actions.

You could try going to the Sales Team responsible for your opportunity and verify configurations.

Go to CRM → Configuration → Sales Team → Select the related Sales Team → Check the Leads checkbox.

Sometimes the Lead option is not ticked in Sales Team and hence Lead directly goes to opportunity pipeline. But, this solution might show the website leads in the Lead section of CRM.

I hope you are doing well

-There is no "Create a Lead" action in Odoo 18's website form builder. Only "Create an Opportunity" exists - the label is cosmetic.
-The actual type (lead vs opportunity) is decided at runtime based on settings. in  website_crm/models/crm_lead.py code line 55:58

Fix: Enable CRM → Configuration → Settings → Leads, then enable "Leads" on the sales team. The form will then create leads despite the label saying "Create an Opportunity." 


Go to Sales Team → Enable "Leads" checkbox:
-Once enabled, the same "Create an Opportunity" action will create records with type='lead' instead of type='opportunity'. The label stays the same — the behavior changes behind the scenes.
