When sending meeting invitations, is it possible for the invitation to be sent as a 'comment' rather than an 'email'?

When I create a new event in the calendar and an invitation gets created, there is a mail.mail object created which I can view in Setting/Technical/Email/Emails. This invitation is sent out with the email queue processing and it works fine.

But...,I would rather not have to use an email server to send these invitations as they are only for internal purposes within our organisation. I would rather use the internal messaging feature of OpenERP.

I have noticed that there is also a mail.message object created for a meeting invitation which can be viewed at Settings/Technical/Email/Messages. However these objects have Type- 'Email' rather than 'Comment' (like when I send a message to another OpenERP user in our organisation) and the 'Notified partner' field of the message is not populated. Needless to say, the message does not get received by the user that is invited to the meeting.

Can I configure OpenERP to send invitations this way?

Thanks,

Bill.

Hi,

Yes, you can do that by just "composing a message" with the messaging system.

As explained in this page.

Response after comment: base_calendar vs super_calendar

I don't think that it's possible to do it this way (Sending an internal message rather than an email) because, base_calendar is coded such a way to send a message to a partner by mail (Customers, Suppliers and Users).

I think also, that you can find a solution to your question by using "Super Calendar".

As promised in my last comment.

1_ Create an Event: Give it a Name , a Date and a description ...

2_ Open Super Calendar Configurators:

a_ Create a new Configurator

Super Cal Meet 1

b_ Click on "Add an Item": For Model choose Event, fill in a description, for Start date field choose Start Date , and for Description Type choose Code and write ${o.event.name}

Super Cal Meeting 2

c_ Save your changes

d_ Click on Generate Calendar

e_ Open Super calendar

Thanks, but I'm actually looking for a way to make OpenERP use the internal message function to automatically send invitations to meetings entered in the calendar, rather than sending an email. I'm familiar with manual use of the messaging system.

Do you mean "Super Calendar"?

Author

no, just the calendar at Messaging/Organizer/Calendar. Super Calendar is just a module that combines the different calendars in OpenERP into one calendar view, isn't it? I haven't used it, but that's what it appears to be. What I'm getting at is the action that is triggered when you create a meeting that includes an invitation to another user. Rather than sending an email via the outgoing mail server (which is what OpenERP does by default), I'd like to replace that action with an action that sends an internal message to the invited user.

Super calendar can do more than that.

Well, that's great, but can it assist in addressing the issue outlined in the original question? If not, then mentioning it isn't very helpful.

Yes, off course, but it's 02 AM , and i promise that in a few hours i will do my best to try to show you how that can be achieved.

It's not clear in your description of how to use Super Calendar that an automatic message (not an email) is sent to users invited to the event. Does that happen?

My response followed your answer to my comment: when i asked: Do you mean Super Calendar? You responded: No, just the calendar at Messaging/Organizer/Calendar.

But this is not so important, now the new question is: How to trigger an action to send a message to some users, let's say 2 or 3 days before the date of the meeting.

This is what you exactly want.

Give me some moments, be patient and keep following this question.

did you find a solution for this? we have the same need here: not to send email notifications for meetings.

No, no solution yet Federico. Don't forget to only use the 'Answer' function to provide an actual answer to the original question. If you just have a follow up question, use the 'Post a Comment' function. Thanks.
