importing contacts in .csv format in Odoo 13

Question

Hello Odoo community,
I am trying to import a list of 500
contacts into Odoo. Since I did this before with round about 400
contacts i would like to recognize Odoo the already existing duplicates.
How can I manage this so that Odoo is only updating the new contacts without importing the duplicates a second time?

I think your best way is to do an import compatible export of all existing contacts and use the Excel function VLOOKUP to merge the id column with your new list.
That way all merged contacts will update as the id is set and blank id records will get created.
