I sell products that have a couple different variants (eg. colour).  On the website when someone looks at a particular item the screen it defaults to a certain variant (eg. red) and the screen will indicate whether that item is in stock or not.  If there are no red items in stock the screen will say 'out of stock'.  Only if the user chooses a different colour that is in stock will it indicate there is any in stock.  I am finding my customers assuming I don't have any of these items in stock because when they click on the item, it defaults to the red variant and indicates out of stock.  It isn't intuitive for them to maybe select a different colour to see if that one is in stock.

Is there a way to have the product listing on the website default to show the variant of that product that is actually in stock?  Or any other suggestions on how to deal with this?  I just had a person tell me they have viewed my site but have the impression I have little stock (even though I do).  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
