When doing an inventory adjustment, it can happen that some products have more or less “counted quantities” than what is set on the “on hand quantity''.

A list of the differences is always useful to understand what has been "gained" or “lost”.

It could be interesting to first explain how we create or delete units in Odoo.

Each time that we have a move between an internal location, for example:

  • WH/Stock

  • WH/Output

  • Physical Locations/Subcontracting Location

and, either, a virtual location, for example:

  • Virtual Locations/Production

  • Virtual Locations/Scrap

  • Virtual Locations/Inventory adjustment

or a partner location, for example:

  • Partner Locations/Customers

  • Partner Locations/Vendors

a stock quant is either created or deleted.

A move from WH/Output to Partner Locations/Customers (i.e. a delivery order) is going to delete a certain amount of stock quants from our on hand inventory.

A move from Virtual Location/Production to WH/Stock (i.e. a manufacturing order) is going to create a certain amount of stock quants in our on hand inventory.

A loss from an inventory adjustment (a negative difference between counted quantity and on hand quantity) will be represented by a move from WH/Stock to Virtual Locations/Inventory adjustment.

A gain from an inventory adjustment (a positive difference between counted quantity and on hand quantity) will be represented by a move from Virtual Locations/Inventory adjustment to WH/Stock.

The production and the inventory adjustment locations will act as a counterpart for the gain & loss of quantities. These counterparts can be defined on the product form (in debug mode):

How to access the report:

For an inventory loss:

  1. Open debug mode

  2. Go to Reporting > Stock Moves

  3. Filter by “destination location contains Inventory adjustment”

For an inventory gain:

  1. Open debug mode

  2. Go to Reporting > Stock Moves

  3. Filter by “source location contains Inventory adjustment”
