I am very new to Odoo world, just started in a company using Odoo Community edition but it looks like dated back to 2009, how can I upgrade the community edition that the company is using to the 13th one?

To upgrade any community version you will need the OpenUpgrade project :

It is scripts from the Odoo Community Association (OCA) that automate the upgrade.
Process is simple as long as you don't have tons of customised modules to upgrade. You need to upgrade step by step, from one version to the next until you reach the last one.
Instead of upgrading, you may prefer to run the Odoo Community Backport (OCB) related to your version. It is like a long time supported Odoo Community version. If your Odoo ERP works well enough, think twice before upgrading.
