"Chart of Accounts" is not a question. A question is a substantial phrase that ends with "?"

We get close to 1,000 posts a month and not everyone will open a post to find out what your question is.

I have edited your post to make the title a question.

In the future, please consider (1) using a Question that makes it clear what you ask without requiring people to open your post and (2) adding Tags. This will often increase the chances people will respond and also make everything clearer for others who may come along later searching for the same thing.

Failing that, you can paste your future posts into an AI Chatbot and ask it to "please generate a question of no more than 16 words that summarizes what I am asking" and use that as your question.

Hi, if you're coming from a different accounting system and moving to Odoo, it's best to import your General Ledger first instead, and use suspense accounts as placeholders. Then the import invoices, vendor bills and bank statements, to match those suspense account values.

The Odoo tutorial for this might explain it for you in better detail than just laying out all the details here:

Hii,

Create an Opening Journal (if not already)

Go to Accounting > Configuration > Journals :

  • Create or select a journal named "Opening Journal" .
  • Set Type to “General”.
Step 2: Create a Journal Entry

Go to Accounting > Journal Entries (or in Developer Mode: Accounting > Accounting > Journal Entries ):

  1. Create a new journal entry .
  2. Set the date to the start of the fiscal year (eg 01/04/2025).
  3. Add lines for each account where you want to set opening balances:
    • Debit or credit the amount.
    • Example:
      • Debit: Bank Account → ₹1,00,000
      • Credit: Retained Earnings or Opening Balances Suspense → ₹1,00,000
  4. Make sure the entry balances (debit = credit) .
  5. Post the entry.

i hope it is use full

Hi,

In Odoo, there is a way to change the opening balances of your chart of accounts, but it must be done carefully to ensure proper accounting integrity.

Options to Change Opening Balances:

1. Create a Manual Journal Entry

This is the most common and recommended method:

Go to Accounting → Journal Entries.

Create a new journal entry dated on the first day of the fiscal year.

Post debit and credit entries to the appropriate accounts to reflect your opening balances.

Ensure the entry balances (total debits = total credits).

Hope it helps
