I know, when you make an error it's your own fault. Bullshit in -> Bullshit out

But nevertheless it matters how a system presents to you the information that you made an error.

Being rather fresh to odoo but an enthusiast for open source software I have to say that this system could deal better with errors.

It is too easy for a user (without manipulating any code) to get into a situation where the system just shows you a white page and you don't have the tiniest clue what could be wrong. If you have access to the log of the system you might be able to see some exceptions which are trying badly to explain what happened.

For a system as modular as Odoo, I would expect it to be more resilient to errors, and better in communicating these. I would expect it to contain ANY error within a module to just remain a problem of the module and not of the whole system.

Furthermore I think it is absolutely crucial, that people should be able to understand errors. Some simple examples about what I experienced so far, that should have been handled better:

 - Using the barcode module, there where some declarations for barcodes, for which users tried to use illegal characters. Instead of telling the user, that these characters are illegal, or just plainly not accepting these in the first place, it responded with showing a blank page when trying to print the barcodes

 - writing a view xml file: In Odoo almost everything depends on whether you are able to find that something, that you want to change. If you have an error in your xml file, odoo fails to update your module obviously, but it only tells you about this through its log and there it is not communicating clearly, when a reference you wrote has just not been found. All other possible errors when using xml files are similarly bad handled.
