I am currently creating Products with a large number of possible Product Variants in Odoo 15 to take an inventory of raw stock, but would like Odoo only to create the purchased Product Variant. For example: Imagine rod stock materials with an attribute Material and Diameter, UOM is in length (mm). I do not need all possible variants starting out, but would like to give our employees the option to purchase a certain variant (and keep track of it in the inventory) on demand.
From how I understood the Dynamically created Product Variants, Odoo should only create the Product Variant in case it is actually purchased. I am using the Product Variant Grid. Upon purchase of any possible variant, Odoo will create all possible variants instantly. This is a problem if the number of possible variants exceeds 999. (these many variants will never be relevent for the use case).
Is my understanding of Dynamically created Product Variants wrong, or do I have a mistake in my settings?

Hi,
Odoo only creates variants dynamically when you SALE them (not purchase), so new variants are added to product variants view only after they are on confirmed Sales Order.

Thank you for the comment, the video was informative, but Odoo does not react to the Dynamic variants the same way on my instance. Following the exact same steps, Odoo still creates all possible variants - even if I just choose 1 variant in the grid. Any ideas what might be going on? Best, Taras

Using the Product Configurator in the Sales module, even stranger behaviour occurs:
I created a test attribute A and B. Attribute A has the options A1, A2 - while attribute B has the options B1, B2. Upon creating a sales order, Odoo created A1-B1 (as chosen) and A2-B2 (not chosen).
On a new test product using attribute A with A1, A2 and attribute B with B1,B2,B3. Upon creating a sales order, Odoo created A1-B1 (as chosen), and A2-B1 (not chosen)..
Using the Order Grid, Odoo will always create all possible variants, even though all test attributes are set "Dynamically"..
Still looking for clues.
