What are the differences. I have heard that the Enterprise Edition will have a different UI (as they have been promoting) but the community will have the old one. If this is true this will be a very bad move for Odoo as far as attracting clients that want to first use the community edition as to determine wither or not to use the Enterprise Edition. I know our team on hearing the news is now no longer considering Odoo for future recommendations.
Odoo is the world's easiest all-in-one management software.
It includes hundreds of business apps:
- CRM
- e-Commerce
- Accounting
- Inventory
- PoS
- Project management
- MRP

Hi Joshua,
Besides of the Odoo 9 community edition there will be a V9 Enterprise Edition. This is a pretty big game changer in Odoo 9 and directly stears Odoo from being fully open sourced to being partially open sourced and partially closed. The Enterprise Edition will contain a set of new apps on top of the Odoo community edition.
A good thing to know is that the Enterprise Edition will never be open-sourced and the code will only be available to official Odoo partners and Odoo itselfs. This also means that a non-official partner cannot sell the Enterprise Edition and thus an Odoo customer can only buy the Enterprise Version from Odoo or its partners. Another interesting fact is that the Enterprise Edition will contain full responsiveness! It will fully adapt itself to mobile, tablet, computer,.. and means that this will be the first Odoo version that is truely mobile useable.
If you would like to have access to these features you will need to buy the Enterprise version, which will be an additional 20€ per user per month.
The modules that we now know in Odoo 8 will remain available for anyone in V9, without any extra cost, and will always be publicly on Github. New apps that will be in the Enterprise contract are account_dashboard, account_check_print, web_mobile, project_forecast and probably a whole lot more that are not publicly discussed yet.
If you want to see exactly what will be in in the Community edition and what will be in the Enterprise edition you can view it here.
You're wrong. The most features available in v8 modules are not available in v9 modules. So, I would suggest anyone working on v8 not to upgrade to v9.
Please provide the facts for your assertions!

Hi yenthe, Your info is good.. But still I have douts.. What are technical changes in odoo9 like odoo8 they have introduced new api..
I saw the spreadsheet comparison on google. The UI not available in the v9 community edition sucks!
EDIT ... and on further thought
since this is the tac of odoo corp...
I think this is where the OCA needs to step up and run a CROWD FUNDING CAMPAIGN !

Responsiveness is in fact the only accepted way by Google mobile-friendly rules and of course the backend side of the system should follow the same idea than the front-end. It is a core functionality and also something that would benefit the community co-operation what comes to speed on making it better!
Such a great boost that Odoo has had lately should not get split into widely distributed community efforts. We should work for the same goal but in this way the project starts to get forked. It's very easy to understand and respect that some special, extra feature modules can be paid ones but when core UI goes to the subscription level and there is a developer working to his client, he rather makes his own module to his customers than gets his client hooked with Odoo subscriptions. It is very confusing for the end-client to get invoicing from several directions and the feeling the open-source independence is damaged! There are also other rising stars on the sky of ERP development and many genius developers shift to look around where they have more community flexibility.
The community seems to be generally very confused at the moment. Developers are not knowing into which direction to put their efforts and if it is worth to work for Odoo when your donated time may end up benefitting the Enterprise version (it uses the same core). Great videos are made with new functions but then you need to filter them by guessing what you can get and what not without subscription. Imagine you have 10 users and you basically only would love to get the responsive UI parts: 12 x 200 euro = 2400 euro. You can develop a lot already with this one year budget for yourself but then the effort stays only inside your company, not for the community. I guess we can start expecting lot of different looking private Odoo systems or escaping developers!
No way I wish to diminish the efforts of the Odoo team, those are great but it is strange to kick a functional community away from the core functions. I think the Odoo themes and apps sold at the moment are great since they do not restrict the further development but greatly accompany the community efforts. If you want a form builder, you won't start subscribing Enterprise version for that. You need to be able to buy the module separately, the same goes e.g. for POS Loyalty Cards, individual shipping integrations, CRM subsciptions, coupons (that are btw very core features in any open-source webshops) or bank interfaces when applicable. Mass Mailing Templates seem to get ripped off from CE! Odoo v8 client using that as one of his core modules avoids upgrading in that case. Usually one client company needs only 1-2 of these above and it's not worth to pay Enterprise subscription for that since you lose the functionality if you stop paying. It's clear that developers will "invent these wheels again" in order to keep their own client happy. If the module would be 20-200 euro they could buy it, develop and give back to the community their efforts while searching an answer for extra features, bugs or similar.
We should avoid a situation in which several groups develop the same thing separated and keep their knowledge to themselves. It's not fruitful Open Source development model at all. Developers need to also make their future plans and their roadmap should not be covered with risks of not knowing when the road ends totally.
I honestly think that the sole reason for the enterprise version is money. Odoo is open sourced and has a lot of people that they have to pay. They somehow need to have more money/revenue and this is the solution from Fabien to combat this. In all honestly I wouldn't be surprised if somebody or a team starts building an own mobile version op and sells it for XX euro's. If you can accomplish 90% of the mobile abilities Odoo will have and put this module for sale I'm sure you could make a whole lot of money. But we'll see where that goes.. Open source or not, every company needs profit.
I agree very much. And the big uncertainty for me goes even further. I have as far as I understand two opportunities: - Stay with the community edition and miss the new user interface, and maybe think about amending the old user interface by own efforts, but be compatible with the community license-wise, or - go with the enterprise version, pay the money and try to charge the customer for it, but not being able to use community modules for license compatibility reasons and therefore spend additional efforts to "copy develop" community functionality. Not a good choice...
Here you go, a nice free theme from the community:

So pretty much a deal breaker for any of our clients, their number one complaint was the UI in V8.
Hi smith, See this given website i think you ll be get better idea from this,https://www.odoo.com/es_ES/groups/community-59/community-12196132?mode=date...,https://www.odoo.com/es_ES/groups/community-59/community-12199074?mode=date
Hello everyone. Anyone already running Odoo v8 shouldn't upgrade to v9. You WILL lose many features. I did on test environment and found that many features are blocked saying only available in Enterprise version. Thank you,
Odoo8 still has better UI than odoo9... that's it and of course, odoo9 enterprise takes the odoo community ideas and makes private modules with the community ideas...
Is there already a list of v8 features/modules no longer available/blocked/not working in v9 Community Edition ? (I don't mean the official highlevel list from Odoo, but detailed features, and facts) if not, maybe it would be interesting to start one, so we can evaluate to stay with 8 or upgrade or move to other platforms?
